Courses in our Voices of Israel Category

Identifying otherness, securing sameness

Israel is a mosaic of communities- a diversity of cultures and ethnic groups whose heritage, outlook, religions and experience cause them to live very different lives.
There is diversity within both Arab and Jewish cultures, within Christian, Muslim, Druze groups.
One can for example, observe differences in history, sociology, culture of Bedouins in the Negev from Palestinians in the Galilee. Christians and Muslims, Druze and Circassians all adhere to different ways of life.
There is also great diversity within Jewish society—religious and secular, Ashkenazim and Mizrahim. Furthermore, Jews have come from all over the world, having brought with them different outlooks and schools of thought.

Openness for enrichment

These courses explore the diverse and pluralistic nature of Israeli society. They ask critical questions necessary to our openness for enrichment, for highlighting humanity in encounters with our world.
Questions are often –
How does Israeli society negotiate diversity?
How do marginal groups conceptualise identity and claim a place in Israeli culture?
How are identities of nationality, ethnicity, gender, and sexuality expressed and negotiated?
Courses incorporate critical analysis of media narratives in Israel and abroad.
They incorporate modern literature, music and other art forms.
Some of our courses offer study trips to Israel.
Many of our students belong to educational institutions dedicated to studying these texts and courses available.
There are opportunities to join as a worldwide learner into courses that have the “double track” options- i.e, that welcome independent learners into their established classes.
Students will also be able to find courses that follow a modular progression for credit with individual universities and other teaching institutions.
There are also, for some select universities, undergraduate and graduate degree progressions available for students, involving parallel studies with History, Culture and Thought and Modern Literature Categories.
