Through the ages…

Judaism’s sacred texts are relevant today as much as they were in antiquity. They represent not only an expression of religious precepts but embody also the rich historical, cultural and social heritage of the Jewish people.  Drawing on ancient wisdom from the past, these texts give voice to present concerns and are even evident in Israel’s modern culture.

This section of studies contains classic Jewish texts in their Hebrew and Aramaic originals.

This category of courses contains titles as varied as:

Apocalyptic Literature in Early Judaism and Christianity, History of Judaism, Jewish Mysticism and its Formative Traditions, Midrash: Classic Rabbinic Biblical Interpretation, The Rabbininc Midrash Collection Sifra, Defining Jewish Distinction- an Exploration of Jewish Philosophy and Wisdom in ancient Judaism.

We of course are met with studies in The Tanakh, an acronym of the three sets of books which comprise it: the Pentateuch (Torah), the Prophets (Nevi’im) and the Writings (Ketuvim).

Additionally, students can study the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Septuagint and there are several courses contrasting  Early Christian texts with Judaic texts.

We meet also Mishna and the Talmud and the Midrash (pl. midrashim).
